Crispy Honey Beef with Snow Peas

This crispy honey beef with snow peas recipe is another flavor packed dinner you can make in under an hour. It only has a few ingredients, but the cooking method and combination of flavors makes this dish amazing.

This dish works great with snow peas, but if you can’t find those, you could also sub broccoli, sliced bell pepper, and/or zucchini for the peas. I used sirloin steak for the beef, but flank steak can also be used here as well. For the sauce you only need a few ingredients – soy sauce, honey, sriracha, rice vinegar, chicken stock (or my favorite chicken powder and water), sesame oil, garlic and scallions.

The crispiness of the beef in this recipe comes from a coating of cornstarch and quick pan fry. The crispy coating on the beef helps the sauce stick to the meat and so every bite of beef is covered in delicious flavor.

I’m a big fan of stir fry recipes for weeknight meals because they come together so quickly but feel like a true home cooked meal. I served this over white rice with some Chinese broccoli drizzled with soy vinegar and sweet soy sauce. You will not regret giving this one a try!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs beef sirloin or flank steak
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 tsp sriracha optional
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup chicken stock or water plus 1/4 tsp chicken powder
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • 8 oz snow peas
  • 2 scallions sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves sliced thin

Instructions

  • Place steak into freezer for30 min or so to help firm it up for slicing.
  • Thinly slice the steak against the grain.
  • Whisk together the soy sauce, honey, 2 tsp cornstarch, sriracha, rice vinegar, and water/chicken powder or chicken stock and set aside.
  • Line a baking sheet with a cooling rack. Also line a cookie sheet with some paper towels.
  • Season the beef with salt and pepper. Put 1/4 cup cornstarch into a ziploc and add 1/2 the beef. Toss until coated.
  • Heat the oil in a frying pan. You want the bottom to be coated in about 1/8 inch of oil so add more or less depending on your pan size.
  • Heat over medium high heat until hot. Add half the beef. Don't add to much so it has a chance to brown well without steaming.
  • Fry without moving until browned one one side. Flip and brown the other side.
  • Drain on paper towels then move to the cooling rack to keep it crisp while you fry the rest of the beef the same way.
  • Once all the beef is fried, wipe out the skillet. Add the sesame oil to the pan over medium high and add the snow peas and garlic. Cook for about 1 minute. Reduce heat and add the beef back to the pan along with the sauce and allow it to thicken for a minute. Top with sliced scallions and serve.
