My favorite margaritas are not overly sweet, with fresh lemon, lime and orange juice, tequila, triple sec, orange syrup and a dash of salt. You can skip the blending an serve over ice as I usually make them, or blend them up for a tasty frozen drink.
I got a new Ninja mini smoothie/drink blender that I completely love. We bought it to try out for my son to take to college to make protein shakes, but I can already tell if he takes this one, I’m getting a replacement. It has a crush setting for ice, and I immediately thought of margaritas, so blended it was.
I like a mix of lemon, lime and a little fresh OJ for these, but you can use just lime or any combo of juice you like. There is some debate on which kind of tequila makes the best margaritas. We used a mid range silver tequila. As long as it is a tequila you like the taste of, I say use whatever you want.
Instead of salting the rim of the glass, I like to blend or mix a bit of salt into my drink. I like that you get that little hit of salt throughout the drink, not just at the beginning.
You can use agave or simple syrup in these, but they are extra good with orange syrup. I had some left from making candied orange peel and used that.
