Making cocktails at home is so much fun. I bought some ume plum syrup this week at HMart and I wanted to make a cocktail with it, so came up with this Ume Gin Fizz last night. We had a plum sake and gin cocktail a few months back at a sushi bar that I loved, so this is a take on that. If you don’t have an Asian market near you, you can also buy the syrup on amazon here.
If you aren’t familiar with ume, they are a type of Japanese plum (although really closer to an apricot, but they are commonly referred to as plums). I have an ume tree growing in my yard that hasn’t produced fruit yet, but I can’t wait until it does. The plums are made into vinegar, sake, syrup, and also pickled. The pickled version is very salty/sour and is one of my most favorite flavors.

I decided to pair the ume syrup with the rest of this Conniption Navy strength gin from the Durham Distillery near us. I added some lemon and topped it off with sparkling water. It was slightly sweet and refreshing and I’d definitely make it again.
