Vodka Citrus Fizz

Vodka Citrus Fizz

Since we have still been having very hot summer weather here in North Carolina, I was craving a citrus based cocktail. We were out of tequila for margaritas, so my husband suggested using up some lime vodka he had. While I love a properly prepared cocktail, I also am always up for just playing around and mixing whatever we have in our liquor collection. That’s usually how our drinks go later in the evening anyway. 🙂 This vodka citrus fizz is what we ended up with. It is refreshing and light and a great cocktail for summer.

This drink is a simple combo of lime vodka, lime juice, lemon juice, simple syrup (optional), bitters and sparkling water. I like to mix up my cocktails ahead of time and put them in the freezer in a mason jar for a while so that they are ice cold when served. You can shake in the cocktail shaker with ice too, but they really stay cold nicely when frozen. Anything with carbonation needs to be added at the last minute when serving though.

Let’s talk about salt in cocktails. I like to add a little salt to my citrus cocktails. We tried this once on a margarita because I love a salt rim but was too lazy to do it, and we found we really liked the salt distributed through the drink. I often add a bit of salt to citrus drinks now.

I have mentioned before that I don’t like my drinks sweet, so I did not add simple syrup here since the lime vodka we had was sweet already. If you are using the unsweetened vodka, you will need some simple syrup in this.
