My step mom loves amaretto, and I was shopping around for a good one for her and realized that Luxardo made one and I had to try it. It is delicious and was a great base for making an amaretto sour. I liked the idea of another flavor component to the drink, and fresh ginger goes great with the amaretto flavor.
To impart the ginger flavor to the drink, you can either muddle the fresh ginger in the alcohol, or you can do what I did and slice the fresh ginger and soak it in the booze for 24 hours before straining and using in the drink. You definitely want fresh ginger here, not powder.

I have mentioned before that I don’t like using raw eggs in my drinks, so when I want to have some foam I use foamer instead. It doesn’t give quite as much foam as egg white, but I still prefer it. You could make this drink without the ginger if you prefer a standard amaretto sour.
