This tequila sunrise (ish) cocktail is roughly based on a tequila sunrise, but with some changes. I had a bottle of tequila and a bunch of fresh oranges I needed to use up, but I wanted a less sweet, more mature version of a tequila sunrise.
This drink does in fact have tequila and orange juice and cherry juice….. but there is also a dash of triple sec, a dash of salt, and the very sweet grenadine is replaced by sour cherry concentrate (link here). I also reduced the amount or orange juice relative to the amount of liquor from the standard recipe and added a little hit of lime juice. I loved the sweet/tart/slight hint of salt flavor of this drink. I would make it again another time for sure.
