Fancy Hot Dogs

I was totally a hot dog not hamburger kid growing up and I still love hot dogs. We had an A&W drive in in our town going up and I loved going there for hot dogs. I still love a simple hot dog, but sometimes it is fun to make a fancy version.

These hot dogs are served on my favorite sandwich rolls, and they are wrapped in bacon and topped with fried onions and peppers, ketchup, mustard, bbq sauce, pickled hot peppers and crushed potato chips. These were super tasty and easy to make and we all really enjoyed them.

Servings 6 hot dogs

Ingredients

  • 6 hot dogs I used Nathans
  • 6 hot dog buns or rolls
  • 1 green pepper thinly sliced
  • 1 red pepper thinly sliced
  • 1 onion thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • salt and pepper
  • 6 strips of bacon
  • whatever condiments you like I used ketchup, mustard and bbq sauce
  • pickled hot peppers I made my own for a different recipe and used here too but you can use jarred pickled jalapenos if you don't want to make any
  • crushed potato chips

Instructions

  • Wrap each hotdog in bacon and place on a foil lined baking sheet. Place into 400 degree oven for 20-30 minutes until bacon is crisped up. Meanwhile, heat oil in a skillet and saute the onions and peppers with some salt and pepper, stirring often until browned and soft.
  • Cut your rolls and add the hot dogs. Top with the pepper and onion mix, pickled peppers, condiments, and crushed chips and serve. Yum!
