My daughter likes the pumpkin cream cheese muffins from Starbucks, so I decided to make a homemade version since homemade is usually more fresh and tasty. She did confirm she liked these even better than the Starbucks ones, so that is a win.
These muffins are quick to make and the recipe made 12 large muffins with a good amount of cream cheese on top. The cream cheese is a simple mix of softened cream cheese, a little powdered sugar, vanilla and a touch of flour. These bake up in about 20 minutes and you can store them at room temp, or freeze them and take out one at a time to eat.

Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffins (Starbucks Copycat)
Tender pumpkin spiced muffin topped with a generous amount of sweet cream cheese filling
Ingredients
For the muffins:
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup pumpkin puree
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1 1/2 cup flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp ground allspice
For the cream cheese:
- 8 oz block cream cheese softened
- 2/3 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp flour
- 2 tbsp heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 and line with cupcake liners. In a bowl, whisk together the oil, eggs, pumpkin, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla until smooth. In another bowl whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and spices. Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix gently until combined.
- In another clean bowl, whisk the cream cheese, sugar, vanilla and flour until smooth. You can do this in a stand mixer, or I used a little hand held blender wand to be sure it was smooth.
- Divide the pumpkin mix into the 12 muffin wells and using a cookie scoop or 2 spoons, put a golf ball sized dob of cream cheese in the center. It will settle in as it cooks. Bake for 10 minutes, rotate the pan and bake 10 more minutes. Keep an eye on them for doneness and check by inserting a toothpick into the pumpkin portion as close to the center as you can without going through the cream cheese. When it comes out clean they are done.
- Cool for 10 minutes then remove from the pan.
