I have been wanting to try kümmel ever since I heard about it. Kümmel is a liqueur flavored with cumin and caraway seeds, both of which I love. I couldn’t find this liqueur at our local ABC, so I had to order it online.
I wanted to go fairly simple for the first cocktail I made using this liqueur to let the flavor really shine. I decided to try a bourbon and kümmel, which is pretty much what it sounds like 🙂
Bourbon with kummel, a few dashes of bitters and a bit of simple syrup (I used orange syrup I had left from making candied orange peel) is the total of the ingredients in this drink. It is a strong drink, since it is almost all liquor, which everyone probably knows at this point is my favorite kind of cocktail 🙂 I loved this drink and look forward to making it again, and also to making some other cocktails using kümmel.
Bourbon and Kümmel
- 2 oz bourbon
- 1/2 oz kummel
- 1/2 oz honey syrup (I used orange syrup) this is just 1/2 honey 1/2 water
- 5 dashes bitters I used orange
- Shake in a cocktail shaker with ice until very cold. Strain into a glass with ice.
