Classic Old Fashioned

A Manhattan and an old fashioned are two of our favorite cocktails. I have a few old fashioned variants on here, but realized I didn’t have the original.  I got my husband these lovely orange slices in syrup for his stocking this Christmas, and they were the perfect excuse to make this drink.

An old fashioned is one of the cocktails that is so simple, it is important to use good ingredients. Instead of using plain simple syrup in ours, I used some of the orange syrup from these orange slices to up the orange flavor a little. Regular simple syrup works fine too, or you can make your own orange syrup by boiling some orange rind in your sugar/water when making simple syrup.

I think I have mentioned before that we really love the Luxardo maraschino cherries for cocktails. There is a link to them on my Favorite Item Links page, if you want to get some. I highly recommend them for cocktails.
