Smash tacos are everywhere in my pinterest feed lately, and I can never resist anything big mac flavored as that is my favorite McDonalds sandwich. If you have not heard of a smash taco, it is a riff on the smash burger, made by pressing meat onto a tortilla and then placing the tortilla meat side down in a skillet until the meat gets nice and crispy.
I was a little skeptical about this idea and thought it seemed slightly pointless, but I changed my mind after making these. The beef layer did in fact get very nicely crispy edges like a smash burger, and these were pretty tasty. I used American cheese as well as lettuce, pickles and big mac sauce (made by combining mayo, mustard, ketchup and relish as well as a few spices). We finished all of these I made and we could have eaten more. It was sort of hard to get a good picture of these folded up like tacos… but this was the best one I got.
Use the mini street taco size tortillas for these. They work great in terms of cooking multiple at the same time and as far as spreading the meat. I used two skillets and cooked 6 of these at a time.

Big Mac Smash Tacos
Ingredients
For the sauce:
- 1 cup mayo
- 1/4 cup dill relish drained
- 3 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1/2 tbsp white vinegar
- 1 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- salt and pepper to taste
For the meat:
- 1 lb 80/20 ground beef
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp big mac sauce
To assemble and serve:
- 12 mini street food sized tortillas
- sliced dill pickles
- shredded lettuce
- 12 slices american cheese
Instructions
- Mix the big mac sauce ingredients and taste and season if needed. Set aside.
- Mix the meat and seasonings along with the 1 tbsp sauce.
- Heat 2 skillets over medium high heat and lightly grease them with oil. Spread about 1/4 cup of the meat mixture onto one side of each tortilla using your hands.
- Place the tortillas meat side down in the skillets and do not move. Allow them to fry for about 2-3 minutes, then check to see that they are getting a nice crust and crispy edges. Flip and cook on the other side and add a cheese slice on top and allow to cook for another 1-2 minutes. Remove from the pan and fold into a taco shape. I lined them up in a baking dish to keep them folded and placed in a 250 degree oven to keep warm while I made the second batch.
- Top each taco with lettuce and pickle and big mac sauce and serve.
