I love anything books and reading so this drink caught my eye. I had to research the name and according to legend, Hemingway once tried a daiquiri and said, “I like it, but without sugar and double the rum.” The bartenders eventually created a version tailored to his taste, which included white rum, lime juice, grapefruit juice (or in this case I used fresh squeezed orange juice), and Maraschino liqueur for sweetness.
This variation became known as the Hemingway Daiquiri. It is sometimes also called the Papa Doble, referring to Hemingway’s nickname “Papa” and his request for a double-strength drink). You can make this cocktail either on the rocks, or blended. I chose to make the blended version and I loved the slightly slushy consistency. I didn’t have grapefruit juice, but I subbed fresh OJ and upped the lime a little to keep the sourness. These definitely went down easy 🙂
