The Violette Martini (also known as the Atty cocktail) is a drink from the early 20th century. It is often overlooked but impossible to forget once you’ve tasted it. It’s a close cousin to the Arsenic and Old Lace and the Corpse Reviver No. 2, walking that fine line between herbal, floral, and boozy with style.
At its core, the Atty is a gin martini laced with absinthe and a splash of Crème de Violette—a purple-hued liqueur with a delicate floral sweetness. The result is crisp and botanical, with a whisper of anise from the absinthe and a haunting lavender hue that makes it as lovely to look at as it is to sip. My husband, son and I all really enjoyed this cocktail. It is subtle, strong and very tasty. Check out more of my great cocktail recipes here.
