Espresso Haymaker

We had this lovely little cocktail last night – I titled it espresso haymaker, because while it was just called a haymaker in the original recipe, there is also a haymaker with citrus, and this one is all coffee.

This drink combines espresso, coffee liqueur, whiskey, orgeat and a hint of salt. You can also add a bit of whipped cream or a dash or cream, but I did not want a dessert type drink so I didn’t. We also may have added an extra shot of whiskey to these, because we prefer strong, not too sweet drinks. If you like lighter, sweeter cocktails, stick with the recipe and add the cream too. :_)

If you aren’t familiar with orgeat, it is a sweet syrup made from almonds and sugar with a little rose water and/or orange flower water. It has a lovely almond flavor and was delicious in this drink. I’m really enjoying these espresso cocktails since we got our own espresso machine (love it and so glad we got it). If this one isn’t for you, check out my big list of other cocktails and whip one up tonight.
